What this test measures
- TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone)
- Made by the pituitary gland to tell the thyroid how hard to work. A high TSH usually points to an underactive thyroid; a low TSH to an overactive one.
- T4 (thyroxine)
- The main hormone the thyroid gland releases.
- T3 (triiodothyronine)
- The more active thyroid hormone, mostly made from T4 in the body's tissues.

- You have symptoms such as tiredness, weight change, feeling unusually cold or hot, hair fall, or a racing heart

How to prepare
- No fasting needed — you can eat and drink as usual.
- Book a morning slot if you can, so repeat tests are comparable.
- If you already take a thyroid tablet, give the sample before your dose unless your doctor says otherwise.
- If you take biotin (vitamin B7) or a hair and nail supplement, ask your doctor whether to pause it before the test. Biotin can distort thyroid results.
Common questions
Do I need to fast for a thyroid profile?
No. Thyroid hormone levels are not affected by a normal meal, so you can eat before the sample is taken.
What is a normal TSH level?
Each lab prints its own reference range on the report, and the right target can differ with age and pregnancy. Ask your doctor to read the result against your symptoms.
How is the sample collected at home?
A trained phlebotomist visits at your chosen slot, takes a small blood sample from your arm, and delivers it to the lab the same day.
